Nucleus Independent Living

Nucleus was founded by a group of consumers who, while patients at Lyndhurst Rehabilitation Hospital in 1981, were contacted by the Canadian Paraplegic Association who were conducting an investigation into the chronic shortage of housing for people with physical disabilities in Canada. After countless meetings with various governmental Ministries and with the support of like-minded community organizations, operations commenced in July of 1983, making Nucleus the first organization created and operated by people living with physical disabilities. Since that time, the organization has grown to include two bricks and mortar locations, attendant care outreach services, and a Mobile Support Service for seniors living in the community. The dedicated and skilled team at Nucleus Independent Living provide a variety of innovative and around-the-clock attendant care support services to people with physical disabilities living in the community.
